The Travel: Travel to Beh Kay from the US is relatively simple. Guests first fly to Cancun where our group overnights. In the morning we take a short charter flight to a jungle airstrip near the lodge. We then transport by land about an hour and a half directly to the lodge.

The Lodge:‍ Accommodations at Beh Kay feature five geodesic domes. All are equipped with a/c and ensuite bathrooms. Views of the bay are present both from inside the rooms, as well as the small patio adjoining. Partially owned by one of the premier fishing outfitters (Nervous Waters), the cuisine and service at Bey Kay are at a very high standard.

The Fishing: Clients have a six day fishing week. Bey Kay provides easy access to the famous flats of Espirito Santo Bay. Permit are plentiful and certainly the main quarry although there are also abundant populations of tarpon, bonefish, snook, and barracuda.

Beh Kay is the latest addition to the small number of lodges fishing the famous Santo Espirito Bay in the Sian Kaan bio reserve south of Cancun. Nearly adjacent to the northern border of Belize, Beh Kay is posed to become the premier Permit lodge in this part of the world.

To the north, hordes of anglers have, over the years, fished ——— Bay. But, Espirito Santo to the south was rarely fished because of much more difficult access. Beh Kay has solved that problem, with guests flying on chartered planes directly to an airstrip cut into the jungle, only and hour and a half drive from the lodge.

Accommodations at the lodge are both beautiful, and unusual. Clients stay in geodesic dome cabins. Each has a/c, an ensuite bathroom, and two beds (although single accommodations can be included for a price). Each cabin also has beautiful views of the bay both from inside, as well as the deck in front of the accommodations.

The dining and common area are apart from the domes, and are welcoming and comfortable. Nervous Waters is a famous outfitter in the fly fishing business, and they are partial owners of Beh Kay. Their standard of service, as well as food and drinks is very high. As such, guests will feel pampered here, experiencing deluxe service and accommodations in a remote part of the world.

Anglers fish a full six days at Beh Kay. There is no question that most clients come here in pursuit of Permit. And, for good reason. Espírito Santo’s environment is perfect for these fish, as it provides massive habitat available to Permit on the right tides, but with quick access to deeper water when fish move due to low water, or to spawn. It is common to see Permit in schools, and small groups of two or three, or as singles.

Even though Permit are the main reason most anglers will come to Beh Kay, there are many other species available here. Bonefish are plentiful, most ranging in the one to three round range, with bigger fish always present. Snook fishing around the mangroves can be very productive, as well as fishing for resident Tarpon. As the water warms in Spring and early Summer, more Tarpon seem to show up, and are seen in the open waters of the bay. And, it is not uncommon to see larger fish this time of year, although Espírito Santo is not recognized as having large numbers of migratory fish. There are also Barracuda, Jacks, and Snapper available.
