Inquire about Pira-Suinda Lodges

The Travel: Guests will fly into Buenos Aires where they can immediately transfer by private charter to Pira Lodge. People can also arrive early to enjoy this great city. After fishing at Pira the group will transfer to Suinda via car. After Suinda, we will take the short flight from Corrientes back to Buenos Aires for connections home.

The Lodges: Both Pira and Suinda Lodges are a mix of sophistication and simple comfort. All Nervous Waters operations pay attention to service and quality, so you can expect an elevated food and wine experience, as well as rooms that are well appointed. Pira has a lovely pool adjoining the lodge, where Suinda is located near the banks of the upper Parana River.

The Fishing: The fishing between the two lodges is extremely different. At Pira, the fishing is more intimate with casts aimed at structure, with high catch rates of average sized Dorado. Suinda offers more variety of species, as well as wide open sand bars and channels where truly big Dorado can be caught

Golden Dorado seemed to have come on the scene about fifteen years ago, and it’s now hard to believe that the flyfishing world knew so little about them before. They seem to be the perfect fish for anglers of all types, and especially for fly anglers. They are aggressive hunters, so will ambush flies of just about all types. They are susceptible to flies stripped, swung, or chugged through the surface film. After an aggressive strike they pull hard, jump, and show themselves to be truly beautiful fish resplendent in yellow, black, and orange combinations of colors. They are spectacular apex predators.

Our friends at Nervous Waters have lodges all over the world, and are one of the most respected outfitters in the world of fly fishing. They understand service, and their Argentine sensibilities mean that all lodges are beautifully appointed, staffed by talented chefs and hosts They do a tremendous job.

Nervous waters has several lodges throughout this part of Argentina which specialize in targeting Golden Dorado. Each lodge and environment has its own distinct flavor, habitat, and fishing experience. In trying to give clients the best of more than just one destination, they now have a combo trip with clients fishing part of their time at Pira Lodge, and the remainder of the week at Suinda.

Pira Lodge has had an amazing reputation for all the years it has been serving fishing clients. The habitat here is so unique……part of a vast marshland created by seasonal high waters of the Parana River and the long bend the river makes. This excess water has now become an amazing ecosystem of flat water, channels, hanging vegetation, birds of all stripes, caimen, and Capybara. Anglers fish from flats skiffs as

they would in shallow saltwater, casting light sinking tips and floating lines in the infinite ambush points the dorado might seek. Most of these dorado average between five and ten pounds although larger are caught. The lodge is located near the water of the Iberia swamp, with flat lands surrounding it. Pira is very comfortable, and guests usually spend the hours after fishing in or near the pool with a drink in hand.

After a half week of fishing Pira, our groups transfer over land to Suinda Lodge which is located on the banks of the upper Parana River. The fishing here is markedly different, with more species available. Clients might start their day fishing under trees near the bank hoping to entice a Pacu, then wade an immense shallow flat hoping to find Dorado on the hunt, and then finish after dark casting into channels hoping to entice one of the largest Dorado in the world to consume their fly. Fish over thirty pounds are caught in these waters, with fish over forty pounds always a possibility.

The lodge itself has a woodsy charm, with a beautiful bar where clients like to drink glasses of Malbec while recounting the fishing stories of the day. Guests stay in double rooms, lushly appointed with the creature comforts one might expect of an outfitter of this quality.

When the fishing week has ended, clients are shuttled to the nearby Corrientes airport for flights back to Buenos Aires, and then ultimately to international flights destined for home.
