Trip Report - Black Sands, Colombia May 2026
Well, we had a simply amazing week at Black Sands. The fishing was exciting, different than past years, and different every day we were there. The most exciting part of the week was that the Yellow Fin Tuna were actively feeding on baitballs near the shoreline. We caught them casting plugs on spinning rods, by jigging for them when they were under the boat and deeper, and casting flies to them when we could get on top of them crashing bait. The other amazing thing about this is that the tuna were really large. Much larger than in past years, for some reason. Most all the fish we hooked were over 50 pounds, with the largest being around 130 pounds. Seeing, fighting, and landing fish of this caliber was simply amazing, but as you can imagine many were simply too big for a fly rod. The largest we landed on the fly were around 60 pounds, on 13 weight fly rods!
There were so many Tuna, and the busts of bait so exciting, that we spent most of our time with them. That said, there were good numbers of sailfish present, and we would set out teasers for an hour in the morning, or just before ending our day. We had some blank times, and others where there were multiple fish up chasing teasers while we got a fly in front of them.
We have a week reserved for 2027, with 5 open spots:
April 30 - May 7, 2027
$6395 per person
